Ogulin

Ogulin is a town located at the foot of Klek (1182 m), a mountain beauty in a spacious valley which has two beautiful rivers flowing into it - Dobra and Zagorska Mrežnica. In the centre of the town above the abyss of the river Dobra, there is Đulin ponor, the abyss named after the legend of a young girl who threw herself into it because of unrequited love, and there is also a Frankopan castle here that was built in the 16th century. The Ogulin region is highly developed for tourism and has an offer that is typical for mountain destinations, from hiking to hunting and fishing. In terms of the natural beauty, Sabljaci lake, the ski resort Bjelolasica and the hiking Mecca’s of Klek, Bijele and Samarske stijene (a nature reserve) stand out, and Stožac is a favourite destination for mountaineers and nature lovers. When the Karlek tourist train is in function, you will be greeted by people dressed up as the witches of Klek, since according to legend, during storms witches from all over the world gather on Klek. During the period of the famous Ogulin fairy tale festival, Ogulin becomes a favourite destination for the youngest generations. Here, it is worthwhile taking a look at the historical heritage; noteworthy is Đulin-grad, three medieval chapels and the church sv. Križ [St. Cross].
