Dalmatia Zadar

Dalmatia Zadar

The attractive Zadar region has three distinct areas - mountain, coastal and island. The mountain part covers the southern part of Velebit and Paklenica National Park. On the other side of the Velebit Mountains, in a small part of Lika that belongs to Zadar, there are what many consider to be the most beautiful caves - Cerovačka spilja.

The coastal and island part with over 300 islands is a treasury of natural and cultural heritage. The historical centre of the county with a long tradition of 3000 years is formed by the city of Zadar, surrounded by a beautiful series of islands - Rab, Pašman, Ugljan, Dugi Otok... These islands rich religious heritage speaks of their importance and long tradition. In the former religious centre for the Croats, in the small town of Nin, there is the smallest cathedral in the world from the 11th century. The river Zrmanja, is famous for its many waterfalls and rapids, but the beautiful waterfalls at the Krupa tributary are no less beautiful. Something unique to this part of Dalmatia are two deep bays - Novigrad and Karin Sea, connected to the open sea through narrow straits. Near to Zadar there is the Vrana Lake Nature Park, and on Dugi Otok Telašćica Nature Park is hidden in a deep bay.
Biograd na Moru, formerly a royal Croatian town, is a famous tourist and nautical destination in the very centre of the Adriatic Riviera.
